DISUK’s SafeTape units take the encryption technology from the Paranoia2 tape encryption appliance and implement it into a complete encrypted tape system. Designed mainly for users looking to upgrade their tape technology and implement tape encryption, this solution provides both requirement in one unit.
SafeTape LTO units are available with either LTO-2, LTO-3 or LTO-4 tape drives, and come in either a rack mountable or desk top enclosure complete with integral power supply. A front panel LCD status display indicates the operation being performed, also informing you if encryption is enabled, the throughput speed of the data and the volume of data being backed up.
SafeTape utilises the unique dual interlaced encryption mode used in Paranoia2 tape encryption appliances, tapes produced on a SafeTape unit can only be read by another LTO SafeTape or a drive connected via a Paranoia2 based unit with the correct user and hardware keys. By utilising the SafeTape tape encryption appliances users can ensure that the integrity and security of their backups are not compromised.
To ensure low impact on the encryption speeds and drive capacity, the SafeTape units have built-in pre compression and an internal dual channel architecture with adaptive data caching. SafeTape is supported on the majority of major Independent Software vendors (ISVs), as well as on many legacy systems so can be used in just about any system or configuration.

The SafeTape LTO-2 offers a simple and uncomplicated means of adding a secure encrypted backup solution to a system. The stand alone tape subsystem appears to the host system as a standard drive and is supported by almost all ISVs backup packages. The unit can be configured to only allow encrypted tapes and also has the flexibility to choose between plain and encrypted as needed.
